Sigrist Electroforming is a European market leader in the production field of customized and high-precision metal bellows made of nickel. The bellows manufactured by means of electrodeposit are primarily applied for any application – whenever highest precision, reliability and a long life-period are required.

Cold Shields

Cold Shields are thinwalled concave metal components being manufactured in a specific electroforming process. The main applications for Cold Shields are in optical equipments as there are night observation devices, IR modules and IR thermal imaging cameras being applied in military, civil and medical areas.

Services

We cover the entire production process from development to assembly of finished cold shields and bellows subassemblies with state-of-the-art technologies. The process involves the design and production of an aluminium mandrel, electroforming and finishing of the moulded part, and removal of the mandrel.

The electroforming process

Creating precision mandrels, electroplating thin walled forms of precious and nonprecious metals, post-processing - electroforms made by Sigrist meet the highest demands. Development

We provide a full product development service or subset starting from the aluminum mandrel, cold shields, bellows or reflectors as required, including the project management, design, development and rapid prototyping followed by pilot production and introduction into volume manufacturing.

Series production

Having taken products from concept through to production we provide dedicated lines to manufacture up to six-digit electroforming parts per year.

Prototyping

During a rapid prototype build and with full flexibility we can identify and help resolve potential challenges in the field of design, documentation, manufacturing, testing and assembly. Depending on the complexity the prototyping can be realized within 3 to 4 weeks.

Follow up

We are partners even after development. Future product requirements will be considered and implemented into the manufacturing process by further progression or adjustment by our team or supported by Institutes / Universities. This is our understanding towards long term relation and partnership.

Electroformed cold shields

Electroformed cold shields

Cold shields – specifically designed to the application, lightweight, uniform thin walled, baffled or single – electrodeposited by Sigrist. An inner black oxide layer helps absorb interfering radiation, an outer shiny gold coating reduces thermal radiation to a minimum.

Sigrist electroformed nickel bellows stand for excellent uniformity and extremely low spring rates. We manufacture a wide variety of sizes and configurations covering extremely accurate temperature and pressure sensing in various applications.
Thermographic cameras

Thermographic cameras

In contrary to image intensifier systems (night vision devices) infrared devices for thermographic cameras measure the difference in heat and produce an electronic image of what is radiating that heat. Electroformed cold shields are integral parts of IR-/thermal devices used in public, civil, military, medical and private applications.

Cold shields are part of medical IR-imaging devices covering a broad field of applications as there are rheumatology, orthopedics, neurology, vascular imaging, forensic, surgery and full body screening including thermal stress response examinations.
Assembly technology

Assembly technology

One of the significant application areas for electroformed metal bellows is being used as a component of placement heads for electronic assembly systems placing up to 50.000 standard components per hour. The metal bellows used support extremely good performance in regards of accuracy, speed and flexibility of assembly lines.
